Dr Charles Lee

Dr Charles Lee

Associate Director

A scientist based at the University of Waikato, Charlie researches the microbial ecology of the Antarctic Dry Vallies. He is involved with planning and executing ICTARS Antarctic field seasons, while working on his own rechearch program.

Affiliated Scientist

Originally from the U.K, Ian works at the University of Waikato studying the micro-organisms of the Dry Vallies. He has also helped verify the mapping of biology and geology in the vallies being studies by the ICTAR team.

Dr Craig Herbold

Dr Craig Herbold

Affiliated Scientist

From the United States, Craigs research has focused on the microbial diversity of Mt Erebus. He studies the microbes present in these geothermal soils, particulaly in terms of new species formation.

Asso. Prof. Steve Pointing

Affiliated Scientist

Steve Pointing is a microbial ecologist who approaches questions from a landscape ecological viewpoint. He has worked extensively on hypolithic and endolithic systems, addressing spatial and functional ecology. Steve's group have current focus on bio-aerosols and dispersal of microorganisms in Antarctica.
